wastED tool: classicFutur paring knives

For German company Robert Herder GmbH & Co. KG Windmuhlenmesser, kitchen knives are an untapped opportunity for waste-reduction.

Forgoing industrial plastic, they produce handmade knives made with wooden handles. And, for over twenty years, the company has practiced what they call “windmill-cycling”: the passing on of their waste products to companies who can best reuse or recycle these materials.

Their newly designed classicFutur paring knife goes even further. The handle is made from wasted beetroot crops processed into a 100% biodegradable plastic alternative.

For the past five weeks, our cooks have put them to work on wastED London’s cutting boards.
